As the temperature is rising outside, I got to thinking about what items I'll be packing for our upcoming family beach trip. So during the next few weeks, I'll be telling you all about my summer essentials. I didn't want it to be limited to just makeup items so I thought 'why not make a series out of it'. So this week I'll be sharing my favorite summer makeup items, but keep an eye out for upcoming posts about hair products and clothing/accessories/shoes.
To me, summer is all about easy, lite products that will, at least somewhat, hold up to the North Carolina heat and humidity. If living in the south has taught me one thing, it's that it's not worth spending a whole lot of time doing your hair and makeup in the summer time. Just a few minutes after going out the door, your hair will fall if you've styled it and your makeup will probably begin to melt if you don't use the right products.
With that said, these are just a few items that I've been loving since they have given me the best results as far as being easy to use and holding up to the southern heat and humidity.
And here we go!

Rimmel BB Cream
Love this stuff! It claims to be a 9-in-1 product that primes, moisturises, minimizes pores, conceals, covers, smooths, mattifies, brightens, and helps protect. I usually have fairly dry skin but in the summer I tend to turn oily throughout the day. So this BB cream is perfect because I don't need to powder when I first apply it but it stands up to touch-ups throughout the day. I don't feel like it minimizes my pores that much but since it gives me just the right amount of coverage and gives me the advantage of skipping moisturizer and sunscreen makes up for the fact that my pores are still a little visible.(source) |
L'Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara
This has been my favorite mascara lately because I can use it on both my top and bottom lashes. I used to only be a top lashes kinda girl as far as mascara goes because I usually have a problem with smudging on my bottom lashes, especially during the hot summer months. But when I purchased the L'Oreal Telescopic, I tried it out on the bottom and had no smudging whatsoever. Perfect for those that want the wear of a waterproof without the difficulty of removing that some waterproof mascaras can sometimes have.

Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Cream Gel Shadow
I have quite a few of these Maybelline Color Tattoos and love every one of them. With just a sweep of your finger across your lid, or a brush if you prefer, you can have shimmery color that stays put all day. No primer is needed and that is what I love about this product. Sometimes I even use these as my eyeshadow base if I'm going to be using powder shadow. There are quite a few colors available and Maybelline usually puts out a few limited edition colors each season. My favorite colors are Barely Branded from the Metal collection and Bad to the Bronze from the original collection. They have quite a few bold colors and some are even matte so I'm sure there's something for everyone.

L'Oreal Color Riche Balm
I have the Rose Elixir and Pink Satin colors and I love them both equally. They are perfect to throw on as your heading out the door or waiting in line at the grocery store. No mirror is needed since they're not a fully pigmented lipstick but they at least provide a sheer wash of color and plenty of hydration. I like these more than other 'balms' on the market because they actually do moisturize like they claim. These would even be good to layer over matte lipsticks that tend to dry out lips or to put under a lipstick that may be too bright or dark for your liking.

NYX Bronzer & Blusher Combo
Perfect 'buildable' bronzer! I have quite a fair complexion but like to warm up my skin the summer time. The bronzer in this combo is perfect for many skin tones. Although it says on the NYX website that the bronzer has gold shimmer, don't let that scare you. The shimmer is detectable enough when applied to the face to not be able to use it all over. I primarily use it around the perimeter of my face (near my hairline and jawline) and down the sides of my nose and on my chin. The blush is also an excellent color for summer. It's a peachy coral with pink undertones that has a yellow-ish gold luminescent glow. You can definitely skip highlighter with this blush. But use it light handed as a little goes a long way. This combo is also great for travel since your blush and bronzer are in the same package.
I hope you enjoyed a sneak peek into my favorite summer makeup items! Please let me know what your favorite summer makeup items are and what you'll be packing up for your vacation this summer. Don't forget come back for the other parts of the Summer Essentials Series! :)
